Requirements of the role
We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance services.
SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). The Retail Banking Directorate oversees supervision and policy for UK retail banking and mortgages, driving better outcomes for consumers including those with vulnerabilities – through firm-specific, sector-wide, and event-driven work, with a clear focus on fairness, affordability, and consumer protection.

Role Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver key policy projects using first-rate analysis and project management skills
- Develop effective working relationships across the FCA and represent the FCA externally with government departments like HM Treasury, industry participants, trade bodies and other regulators
- Write and present policy proposals, supported by data and analysis, to help decision makers in the FCA make decisions
- Deliver public consultations on changes to FCA rules or guidance
- Provide technical and policy advice on the application of the existing rules and guidance
- Research and analyse industry developments (e.g. new products and business models) and advise on their regulatory treatment
- Provide advice and briefing about policy issues to FCA senior management and colleagues
