We are looking for an exceptional Senior Barber & Barber Assessor to join our team in a varied and rewarding role that combines commercial barbering with coaching, mentoring and assessing the next generation of barbers.
This is not a role that takes you away from the industry.
You will continue to work commercially, maintaining your technical skills and industry credibility, while using your experience to support apprentices as they develop into confident, skilled and professional barbers.

The Role
Your time will combine working as an experienced Senior Barber with supporting and assessing barbering apprentices throughout their apprenticeship journey.
As a Senior Barber, You Will
- Deliver exceptional barbering services across classic and contemporary styles.
- Demonstrate advanced cutting, fading, clipper work, scissor-over-comb, beard shaping, shaving and styling skills.
- Deliver an outstanding client experience through excellent consultation, technical ability and customer care.
- Build strong client relationships and maintain a loyal client base.
- Lead by example, demonstrating the professional and commercial standards expected within the barbering industry.
- Mentor and support apprentices and junior barbers within the commercial environment.
- Maintain excellent standards of hygiene, presentation and professionalism.
- Keep your skills current through ongoing professional development and awareness of emerging barbering trends, techniques and products.
- Contribute positively to the performance, reputation and success of the barbershop.
As a Barber Assessor, You Will
- Coach, mentor and assess apprentices throughout their apprenticeship.
- Assess apprentices against the relevant apprenticeship standard and awarding organisation requirements.
- Plan and conduct assessments, providing constructive feedback and clear development targets.
- Carry out regular progress reviews and monitor learner progress, attendance, engagement and achievement.
- Help apprentices translate technical knowledge into confident commercial barbering skills.
- Prepare apprentices for End-Point Assessment (EPA) and ensure they are ready to progress through gateway.
- Identify individual development needs and provide appropriate coaching and support.
- Liaise with employers to ensure apprentices receive the workplace experience and opportunities required to progress.
- Build strong professional relationships with apprentices, employers and colleagues.
- Maintain accurate and timely assessment documentation and electronic learner records.
- Participate in standardisation meetings, team meetings and continuous professional development.
- Ensure assessment activity meets awarding organisation, funding and internal quality assurance requirements.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the apprentice journey.
- Recognise and report safeguarding concerns in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
- Contribute to apprentice recruitment, induction, achievement and retention.

What We’re Looking For
Most importantly, we are looking for an excellent barber who is passionate about developing others.
You will have strong commercial experience, high technical standards and the confidence to share your knowledge with apprentices at different stages of their development.
Essential
- Level 3 qualification in Barbering.
- Recognised Assessor qualification such as TAQA, A1, D32/D33 or equivalent.
- Strong current occupational competence within the barbering industry.
- Significant commercial barbering experience, ideally a minimum of 3 years.
- Excellent technical skills across classic and contemporary barbering.
- Strong cutting, fading, clipper and scissor-over-comb skills.
- Confidence in beard design, shaving and facial grooming.
- Strong coaching, mentoring and communication skills.
- The ability to motivate, encourage and inspire apprentices.
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
- Good IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate electronic learner records.
- The confidence to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
- The legal right to work in the UK.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle where employer visits are required.
Desirable
- Teaching qualification such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training or above, or willingness to work towards one.
- Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification.
- Previous experience assessing apprentices.
- Knowledge of apprenticeship standards and End-Point Assessment.
- Experience working with young people or adult learners.
- Previous experience mentoring apprentices or junior barbers.
