Located on the historic Knavesmire, York Racecourse is one of the UK’s most prestigious and well-loved racecourses, with over 280 years of history and a strong reputation for world-class flat racing. The venue is home to major fixtures including the internationally acclaimed Ebor Festival, attracting large numbers of racegoers and visitors each year. Beyond racing, York Racecourse is a versatile events destination, offering a range of indoor and outdoor spaces for conferences, exhibitions, corporate hospitality, banquets, celebrations and large-scale events. The venue combines its historic setting with modern facilities and is recognised for delivering high-quality food and beverage experiences, exceptional customer service and professional event operations.

About the Role

Step into a key leadership role at one of the UK’s most prestigious racing venues. As Senior Bars Manager, you’ll lead the drinks operation across 50+ bars and hospitality suites, delivering exceptional beverage experiences for race days welcoming up to 35,000 guests, as well as premium conferences, banquets, weddings and events. From driving sales and developing the retail offer to leading teams and delivering flawless service, this is an exciting opportunity to make your mark on a truly large-scale events operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the drinks operation across 50+ bars and hospitality areas on race and non-race days.
  • Manage beverage stock, ordering, suppliers and cellar operations.
  • Plan and coordinate bar set-up, deliveries, logistics and event requirements.
  • Lead, schedule and develop the Drinks & Logistics team.
  • Oversee beverage service across retail, hospitality, conferences and banqueting events.
  • Drive beverage sales, GP and the continued development of the retail offer.
  • Work closely with F&B, Commercial and Sales teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Monitor performance, reporting, invoicing and P&L targets to support continuous improvement.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Extensive experience in high‑volume, multi‑bar operations in bar and cellar management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills with a hands‑on, service‑focused approach.
  • Highly organised, energetic team player able to manage logistics, multiple teams, and tight deadlines in a large venue.
  • Strong technical knowledge of EPOS, stock systems, Excel, licensing law, and compliance with food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
  • Personal Licence holder (forklift licence desirable) and comfortable with manual handling duties.
