Senior BI Engineer - United Kingdom
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior BI Engineer based in United Kingdom.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping how an organisation turns data into trusted, actionable business insights.
You will design and evolve business intelligence solutions that make complex information accessible to stakeholders across the organisation.
The role combines hands-on technical work with close collaboration across business and data teams.
You will build semantic models, define meaningful KPIs, and create intuitive dashboards that support better decision-making.
You will also help establish consistent reporting standards and promote self-service analytics across the business.
Working in a remote-first environment, you will have significant ownership over the evolution of the BI and analytics landscape.
Your work will directly contribute to a stronger data culture, improved visibility, and more informed business performance.
Accountabilities
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into scalable analytical solutions.
- Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports using Metabase or comparable BI platforms.
- Define, document, and maintain business metrics, KPIs, reporting standards, and shared business definitions.
- Develop and optimise advanced SQL queries for reporting and analytical use cases.
- Design semantic data models and reporting datasets that enable reliable self-service analytics.
- Validate data accuracy and consistency across dashboards, reports, and analytical datasets.
- Investigate data discrepancies and collaborate with Data Engineers to identify root causes and drive issues through resolution.
- Analyse business performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights and recommendations.
- Establish and promote best practices in business intelligence, reporting, and data visualisation.
- Maintain clear documentation covering dashboards, metrics, business definitions, and reporting processes.
- Support stakeholder adoption of BI solutions and encourage data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting capabilities, data accessibility, and the overall analytics platform.

Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics Engineering, Data Analytics, or a closely related field.
- Advanced SQL skills and proven experience working with large analytical datasets.
- Strong hands-on experience building dashboards and reports with Metabase or a similar business intelligence platform.
- Experience working with Amazon Redshift and relational database environments.
- Solid understanding of dimensional data modelling and semantic layer design.
- Experience defining business metrics, KPIs, reporting frameworks, and organisation-wide data standards.
- Ability to independently investigate complex business and data issues and take them through to resolution.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to translate data into meaningful business recommendations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A proactive, ownership-driven mindset and a strong sense of accountability.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote-first and collaborative environment.
