Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
As a Senior Bid Writer, you'll take a leading role in the development of high-quality bid submissions across the Network Infrastructure business, supporting opportunities in renewable energy, substations, electricity distribution and EV infrastructure. You'll work closely with Bid Managers and key stakeholders in shaping win strategies, define key messaging and develop compelling responses that align with client requirements and evaluation criteria.
Acting as both a writer and strategic contributor, you'll challenge thinking, identify differentiators and help ensure every submission effectively communicates our capability, innovation and value proposition.
You'll also provide leadership to our writing team, helping to manage priorities, review content, develop capability and embed best practice across the wider work-winning function.
From facilitating storyboarding workshops and leading content development sessions through to producing executive summaries and supporting tender interviews, you'll have a direct influence on both the quality and success of our bids.
This role is hybrid and we can be flexible on location, we have offices in Newcastle & Nottingham.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of high-quality bid responses across strategic and high-value opportunities within the Network Infrastructure business.
- Interpret client requirements, evaluation criteria and customer drivers to develop compelling response strategies, win themes and key messaging.
- Facilitate storyboarding, content development and solution workshops to shape winning submissions.
- Produce exceptional written content, translating complex technical, commercial and operational information into clear, persuasive responses.
- Act as the lead content owner on major opportunities, ensuring consistency of messaging, quality and compliance throughout submissions.
- Build strong relationships with operational, engineering, commercial, business development and leadership teams to support successful bid outcomes.
- Influence and challenge stakeholders to strengthen solutions, improve content quality and maximise competitive positioning.
- Lead peer reviews and quality assurance activities, maintaining high standards across all written submissions.
- Manage and develop the Bid Writing team, providing coaching, mentoring and day-to-day support to Bid Writers and Graduate Bid Writers.
- Support resource planning and workload allocation across the writing team, ensuring priorities are managed effectively across multiple live opportunities.
- Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and enhancing bid libraries, tools, templates and best practice processes.
- Champion innovation and the use of AI and digital tools to improve bid quality, efficiency and overall work-winning performance.

What you'll bring:
Essential:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience delivering major tenders, frameworks or strategic proposals within a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional writing, editing and communication skills.
- Proven ability to create compelling and persuasive tender responses.
- Experience coaching, mentoring or leading Bid Writers, Proposal Writers or similar bid professionals.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and influencing skills.
- Experience leading content development across multiple concurrent bids and managing competing priorities.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across operational, technical and commercial functions.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Word and strong Microsoft Office capability.
- Ability to travel when required.

Desirable:
- Experience within infrastructure, utilities, construction, engineering or energy sectors.
- Knowledge of APMP methodology and best practice bid management principles.
- APMP Foundation or Practitioner certification, or willingness to work towards qualification.
- Experience developing graphics, layouts or visual communication materials using InDesign or similar software.
- Experience using AI tools as a "critical friend" to improve content quality, efficiency and consistency.
