Senior Bid Writer (Grants & Funding)

Vorfreude helps organisations invest, grow and earn. We have several live projects that need expert bid writing support, so you'll be making an impact from your very first week. As we grow, winning funding for our clients and for our own projects is central to what we do. We're looking for an experienced Bid Writer to lead this work from day one.
The role
This is a senior role for a proven bid professional. You'll lead Vorfreude's grant and funding work from start to finish: shaping strategy, choosing which opportunities to pursue, and writing high-value applications that win. You'll work on your own initiative and act as the go-to expert for directors and clients. You'll also build the processes and content that help the bid function grow.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the full bid process for grant and funding applications, including complex, high-value and multi-partner bids
- Develop and run a funding strategy and pipeline aligned with Vorfreude's growth goals
- Find and assess opportunities (e.g. Innovate UK, UKRI, UK Shared Prosperity Fund, National Lottery funds, trusts and foundations, and private and corporate funders)
- Make evidence-based bid/no-bid decisions and advise senior leaders on where to focus
- Write, edit and review top-quality applications, cases for support and project plans
- Run bid kick-offs, win-theme sessions and client workshops to draw out strong content
- Work with finance and delivery teams on budgets, match funding, impact measures and theories of change
- Make sure every submission meets the funder's guidance, scoring criteria and deadlines
- Build and own a content library, bid templates and quality review processes
- Track and report on pipeline value, success rates and funds secured
- Build relationships with funders and use their feedback to keep raising win rates
- Advise clients on funding readiness and oversee reporting and compliance after awards
- Support and mentor junior colleagues or freelancers as the team grows

About you
Essential
- At least 5 years' experience as a bid writer or grant writer
- A strong track record of winning funding, including significant awards with examples you can share
- Deep knowledge of the UK funding landscape and how major funders assess applications
- Experience managing several complex bids at once, working independently to tight deadlines
- Excellent writing and editing skills: persuasive, precise and focused on evidence
- Confident advising and challenging senior stakeholders and clients
- Solid understanding of project budgets, match funding and financial reporting
- Experience building or improving bid processes and reusable content

Desirable
- Experience with innovation, R&D, investment or growth-focused funding
- Experience with public sector tenders
- APMP Practitioner or Professional accreditation, or similar
- Experience leading or mentoring bid writers
- Experience with bid management or CRM tools
