Senior Biomedical Scientist / Histology Team Lead

NHS Histology Insourcing Services | Outside IR35

Remuneration

Indicative Session Rates

  • £180 per 4-hour session (Weekdays & Saturdays)
  • £200 per 4-hour session (Sundays)

Indicative Hourly Equivalents

  • £45/hr (Weekdays & Saturdays)
  • £50/hr (Sundays)

Actual remuneration is anticipated to be paid on a sessional basis and may vary depending on assignment requirements, working patterns and final contractual arrangements.

About the Opportunity

MedicsPro is expanding its Histology insourcing offering and is seeking experienced Senior Biomedical Scientists and Histology Team Leads to support the mobilisation and delivery of NHS Histology insourcing services.

We are currently working with NHS Histopathology departments exploring alternatives to traditional outsourcing models and are building a network of senior Histology professionals capable of supporting operational delivery, workforce mobilisation and service implementation.

One proposed service currently under development is focused on supporting an NHS Histopathology department through the delivery of a dedicated end-to-end Histology service, helping increase in-house capacity and reduce reliance on external providers.

Proposed workforce models are expected to include a dedicated Team Lead supported by Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Support service mobilisation, implementation and operational setup
  • Learn and embed local laboratory SOPs and workflows
  • Deliver training and competency support to incoming staff
  • Coordinate day-to-day operational delivery
  • Act as the senior point of contact for the insourcing team
  • Support workflow efficiency, productivity and turnaround time performance

  • Routine Histology quality activities

Requirements

  • HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist
  • Significant UK Histopathology experience
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, senior or section lead experience
  • Strong understanding of Histology laboratory operations
  • Experience working within UKAS-accredited laboratories

Working Pattern

  • On-site NHS laboratory environments
  • Weekend and evening working anticipated
  • Sessional delivery model
  • Outside IR35 engagements anticipated
