Role Overview
The post holder will participate in the dissection of categories A-E histopathology specimens as per RCPath guidelines and departmental SOPs and be included in the resident doctor dissection rota.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Head BMS in the development of the Digital Pathology system, working to introduce AI algorithms and digital MDT’s.
- Oversee the Special Stains section, participating in the creation of training and creation of training materials.
- Participate in the dissection of categories A-E histopathology specimens as per RCPath.
- Macroscopically examine, describe and photograph specimens where necessary.
- Dissect and select relevant material for histological processing to enable accurate diagnosis of disease in the subsequent histology sections.
- Select appropriate preparatory procedures to aid diagnostic interpretation e.g. decalcification etc.
- Mentor or teach lower grade staff via tutorials, slide sessions and lectures.
- Participate in the planning, production and delivery of lectures required for the in-house training.
- Assess the knowledge and proficiency of staff working in the area of responsibility, highlighting training needs to the manager as necessary.
