Role Overview

The post holder will participate in the dissection of categories A-E histopathology specimens as per RCPath guidelines and departmental SOPs and be included in the resident doctor dissection rota.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head BMS in the development of the Digital Pathology system, working to introduce AI algorithms and digital MDT’s.
  • Oversee the Special Stains section, participating in the creation of training and creation of training materials.
  • Participate in the dissection of categories A-E histopathology specimens as per RCPath.
  • Macroscopically examine, describe and photograph specimens where necessary.
  • Dissect and select relevant material for histological processing to enable accurate diagnosis of disease in the subsequent histology sections.
  • Select appropriate preparatory procedures to aid diagnostic interpretation e.g. decalcification etc.
  • Mentor or teach lower grade staff via tutorials, slide sessions and lectures.
  • Participate in the planning, production and delivery of lectures required for the in-house training.
  • Assess the knowledge and proficiency of staff working in the area of responsibility, highlighting training needs to the manager as necessary.
