Senior Biomedical Scientist in Immunology

We are seeking a Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Immunology department. You will join our enthusiastic team in the Blood Sciences department of Derbyshire Pathology.

Derbyshire Pathology is a partnership between the Pathology departments of Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts and University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, providing a wide range of biochemical services for both Trusts and Derbyshire and Staffordshire GP’s, serving a population of over 1 million. We have a fully integrated blood sciences service which includes automated laboratories, specialist biochemistry with tandem mass facilities and haematology, immunology and POCT sections.

As the successful candidate, you will be HCPC state registered as a biomedical scientist specialist in immunology.

The post offers excellent career development opportunities, and you will be a key member of the blood sciences team. There will be opportunities to develop expertise in and to contribute to the department’s audit, development, IT, research and teaching programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced Biomedical Science technical support within a section by providing training, advice, technical development, troubleshooting and supervision.
  • Supervise and coordinate validation and verification as and when required.
  • Day to day management of staffing and operational duties within the Immunology section.
  • Oversee stock control and ordering of reagents and consumables in all sections in Immunology.
  • Oversee training to BMS and all grades of support staff, updating training documents, and ensuring training is undertaken according to the training policy and training programmes of the department to maintain IBMS training approval and UKAS standards.
  • Work cross site with the other seniors to support with harmonisation for best patient outcomes. Working on the other sites (Cross site working) may be required.
