Role Overview

To be an efficient, flexible member of the laboratory and wider Pathology service providing a consistently high quality and professional service.

Responsibilities

• Assist with managing the day-to-day operations of a specific area of a laboratory service, at the hub or spoke laboratory, as an integral element of Pathology.
• Be responsible for providing specialist knowledge, alongside technical expertise to aid in the training and development of technical staff.
• To maintain competence to practice and to improve professional expertise through engagement in Continual Professional Development (CPD).
• To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health & Safety and Quality.

Specialist Knowledge – Training Lead

• Provide and co-ordinate specialist clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit samples.
• Undertake day-to-day management of a section within the laboratory under the direction of the line manager.
• Contributes to providing a professional clinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department.
• Provide the necessary training and supervision to staff within the section.
• Maintain, monitor and develop documentation for competence assessment in all areas. Maintain training matrix and ProfilerLIve systems for real time training and competence updates.
• Work in compliance with local health and safety rules to ensure a safe working environment. Adhere to department, directorate and Board Health and Safety policies (including COSHH, Risk assessments and Standard Operating Procedures) and to report any non-compliances to the Service Manager or Technical Lead.
