Role Description

The Senior Bookkeeper will be responsible for managing end-to-end bookkeeping activities for multiple clients, including maintaining accurate ledgers, posting journal entries, and reconciling bank and control accounts. Day-to-day tasks include:

The role involves using accounting software to process transactions, monitor cash flow, assist with credit control, and collaborate with colleagues to provide integrated support across payroll, tax returns, and admin services. The Senior Bookkeeper will also:

  • Review work completed by junior team members
  • Identify process improvements
  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding their financial records and reporting requirements

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Horsham. Part-time will be considered.

Qualifications

  • Strong bookkeeping skills, including maintaining ledgers, reconciling accounts, and managing day-to-day financial records.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements, with a solid understanding of finance principles and reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and related digital tools, with experience setting up and optimizing systems for clients.
  • Experience posting and reviewing journal entries (accounting), ensuring accuracy and adherence to best practice.
  • Relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification (e.g., AAT or equivalent) and experience in a practice or multi-client environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize workload across multiple clients.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-specialists.
  • Experience supporting small/medium businesses is highly beneficial; mentoring or supervisory experience is an advantage.
