About the Company

We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Senior Bookkeeper & Financial Controller to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function and provide accurate, timely financial information to support the business.

About the Role

This is a hands-on role, combining senior bookkeeping responsibilities with financial control, reporting and commercial oversight. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the company's financial records, overseeing transactional finance, managing month-end processes and providing clear financial insight to management. The ideal candidate will be commercially minded, detail-oriented and comfortable working independently in a growing business.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the sales and purchase ledgers
  • Manage customer invoicing
  • Process supplier invoices and supplier payments
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations
  • Reconcile customer accounts and supplier statements
  • Manage credit control and follow up on overdue invoices
  • Prepare VAT records and support the VAT return process
  • Maintain accurate financial records relating to Import VAT and customs
  • Process expenses and company card transactions
  • Support month-end accounting procedures
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within Sage
  • Liaise with the UK accountant and provide the required information and documentation
  • Maintain organised financial documentation and filing
  • Prepare information required for cash-flow monitoring
  • Support the preparation of weekly and monthly finance KPIs and management reports

Essential

  • Significant experience in a senior bookkeeping, finance manager or financial controller role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles.
  • Experience preparing monthly management accounts.
  • Strong knowledge of balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.
  • Experience managing sales and purchase ledgers.
  • Strong bank reconciliation and cash-flow management experience.
  • Experience with VAT and UK financial compliance.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to analyse financial data.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the finance function.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
