Senior Bridge Engineer

Location: Bonnyrigg, South Queensferry, Stepps (South East Region)
Category: Engineering – Bridges
Contract Type: Full‑Time, Permanent
Working Pattern: Monday–Friday
Working Style: Hybrid (office and remote)

BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,00km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.

BEAR Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland manage over 750 structures as part of the South East trunk road network which includes a number of complex bridges.

Join our South East Bridges Team as a Senior Bridge Engineer in either our Bonnyrigg, South Queensferry or Stepps Office. We’re looking for self‑driven team players who are eager to support a broad and varied programme of work. To succeed, you’ll bring strong communication skills, adaptability, and a valid driving licence.

Key Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of bridge engineering schemes
  • Take ownership of project budgets, performance, and programme
  • Manage client relationships and stakeholder engagement
  • Oversee risk assessments and ensure full CDM compliance
  • Prepare tender documentation and support procurement
  • Supervise contractors and ensure work meets technical standards
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and wider team members
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and technical requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Significant experience in bridge engineering and project delivery
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng/IEng)
  • Strong leadership and team management experience
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial awareness and project management capability
  • Full UK driving licence
