Senior Broadcast Technical Engineer
Full-time | Matchroom Media | Bristol, UK
The Role
Matchroom Media is looking for an experienced Senior Broadcast Technical Engineer to join our Facilities team. This is a senior, hands-on technical role supporting the design, preparation, rigging and operation of broadcast systems across a wide range of live sports productions in the UK and internationally. We are looking for someone with strong broadcast engineering experience who can take technical ownership of productions, prepare systems properly before deployment, troubleshoot confidently on site and help maintain high technical standards across our broadcast facilities. The role would suit an experienced Broadcast Engineer, Guarantee Engineer or Technical Guarantee looking for a permanent position with significant responsibility across a busy live production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take technical ownership of broadcast systems for live productions.
- Design and produce technical system schematics and signal-flow documentation.
- Configure, test and prepare broadcast systems ahead of deployment.
- Lead or support technical rigs, derigs and production days.
- Act as Technical Guarantee on productions where required.
- Diagnose and resolve technical faults quickly during live production.
- Configure and operate vision mixers, routers, multiviewers, converters and associated broadcast infrastructure.
- Ensure systems are correctly built, labelled, documented and tested before leaving the warehouse.
- Work closely with planning and warehouse teams.
- Support the development and standardisation of Matchroom Media flypacks and production systems.
- Maintain broadcast equipment and identify faults, servicing requirements and potential upgrades.
- Support more junior engineers and freelancers working on Matchroom Media productions.
- Help research, test and implement new broadcast technology and workflows.

Technical Experience
Candidates should have strong practical experience across professional broadcast systems, ideally including:
- Ross Carbonite production systems.
- Blackmagic Design ATEM systems.
- Broadcast routers and signal routing.
- SDI signal distribution and infrastructure.
- Video standards, reference, sync and frame-rate conversion.
- Multi viewers and monitoring systems.
- Cameras and camera signal chains.
- Fibre transmission systems.
- Broadcast IP/networking fundamentals.
- Communications infrastructure.
- Recording and replay infrastructure.
- Technical fault-finding across complex live broadcast systems.
Experience with Blackmagic and Ross systems would be particularly valuable.
About You
We are looking for somebody who:
- Has significant experience in live television or outside broadcast engineering.
- Is comfortable taking responsibility for the technical delivery of a production.
- Has excellent fault-finding skills.
- Understands complete broadcast signal flows rather than individual pieces of equipment in isolation.
- Can work methodically under pressure during live events.
- Takes ownership of assigned tasks and corresponding time management.
- Understanding of technical documentation and system drawings
- Communicates confidently with clients, production teams, freelancers and other engineers.
- Is comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider technical team.
- Is willing to travel regularly throughout the UK and internationally.
- Is flexible around the working patterns required by live sport.

- Senior Vision / Technical Engineer
Experience within live sport, outside broadcasts, fly packs or remote production environments would be particularly relevant.
Location
The role is based from Matchroom Media's Bristol facility, with regular travel to productions throughout the UK and internationally.
