Senior Building Surveyor
It’s finding new ways to maintain world-famous, historic buildings.
It’s leading and collaborating to deliver every time. And it’s joining the professional business behind the monarchy. This is what makes working for The Royal Household exceptional.
Based at Buckingham Palace, you will play a key role in protecting, maintaining and enhancing the Royal Household’s London Estate, encompassing some of the country’s most iconic historic, listed and occupied buildings.
Leading the Technical Team of Building Surveyors, alongside a highly skilled decorating team and specialist contractors, you will drive the approach to building surveying across the Estate. Your remit will span surveys and inspections, landlord duties, building performance, conservation and maintenance, technical standards and specifications, and the delivery of a varied portfolio of project works.
You’ll also take a leading role in supporting the Royal Household’s Net Zero objectives, driving the emissions reduction strategy across the London Estate. From reviewing energy performance and identifying energy-saving initiatives to developing best practice around sustainable materials and interventions, you’ll help ensure these historic buildings are both protected for future generations and equipped to meet modern sustainability challenges.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
