About Ridge and Partners

With one of the largest teams of chartered surveyors in the property sector, located in regional offices across the UK, we have the depth and breadth of experience, expertise and local knowledge to support our clients at every stage of property investment, ownership and occupation, from acquisition through to disposal.

We work with a wide range of clients to manage their property portfolios, projects and transactions and, due to our continuing success, Ridge and Partners are looking for a talented Chartered Building Surveyor to join our Newcastle office.

About the Role

As a Chartered Building Surveyor at Ridge, you will work on a diverse range of prestigious projects and professional instructions across multiple sectors, including healthcare, residential, education, industrial and commercial. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality building surveying services, managing client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the team.

The team undertakes a wide range of core Building Surveying instructions, including planned preventative maintenance (PPM) surveys, pre-acquisition building surveys, schedules of condition, dilapidations, design and contract administration and reinstatement cost assessments. You will work with an exciting portfolio of clients including major healthcare organisations, local authorities, schools, universities, contractors and developers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver a variety of building surveying instructions across the commercial, industrial, education and residential sectors.
  • Act as Lead designer and Contract Administrator on refurbishment, alteration and maintenance projects.
  • Prepare specifications, tender documentation and contract documents.
  • Undertake project management and contract administration duties through all stages of a project lifecycle.
  • Carry out building surveys, condition surveys, and defect investigations.
  • Diagnose building defects and provide practical, commercially focused advice and solutions.
  • Prepare schedules of dilapidations and negotiate settlements on behalf of clients.
  • Undertake pre-acquisition surveys and technical due diligence instructions.
  • Prepare planned preventative maintenance (PPM) reports and reinstatement cost assessments.
  • Provide advice on the design, construction, maintenance, repair and refurbishment of a wide range of property types.
  • Supervise works on site and monitor progress, quality and compliance.
  • Support and mentor junior team members, graduates and APC candidates where appropriate.
  • Contribute to business development activities and help strengthen existing client relationships.

Requirements

  • MRICS qualified Chartered Building Surveyor.
  • Proven experience delivering a broad range of professional and project-led building surveying services.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building pathology, construction technology and contract administration.
  • Experience managing projects and multiple client instructions simultaneously.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
