We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Building Surveyor and Team Leader to lead our London surveying team and drive client business development. Based in our London office, the successful candidate will strengthen team capability, develop existing and new client relationships, and help grow our surveying workload in London and the surrounding area. Subject to business requirements, the role may be eligible for hybrid working.
As a Senior Building Surveyor and Team Leader, you will combine the delivery of complex project management and professional surveying commissions with responsibility for leading the London surveying team. You will set clear expectations, oversee workload and quality, support individual development and help the team achieve its operational and commercial objectives.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor throughout project delivery.
- Lead the London surveying team, allocating and reviewing workloads, setting priorities and performance expectations, supporting wellbeing and engagement, and providing regular coaching and development.
- Support the continued growth and development of the London office by contributing to resource planning, recruitment, business development, cross-disciplinary working and the consistent application of Barker’s project delivery and quality standards.
- Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring delivery to programme, budget and quality standards.
- Undertake condition surveys and prepare technical reports on existing building stock.
- Prepare and oversee tender documentation, contractor procurement and contract administration.
- Lead client, contractor and stakeholder meetings, providing clear communication and project updates.
- Carry out site inspections to monitor health and safety, quality and project progress.
- Manage project finances, including fee forecasting and invoicing.

Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying.
- MRICS or equivalent professional accreditation, or strong post-qualification experience in construction consultancy or industry.
- Demonstrable experience of leading, mentoring or developing building surveying professionals, together with the ability to plan resources, manage competing priorities and maintain high standards of technical and commercial delivery. You will also be confident building client relationships and contributing to the growth of the London team.
- This role requires you to have a full clean driving licence with access to your own vehicle, and will be subject to a DBS Enhanced check.
Hours
- Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm (finishing at 4:30pm on a Friday!)
Holiday
- 25 days (pro-rata’d) plus bank holidays.
