We are Hiring: Building Surveyor
Location: Dorchester, Dorset (On-site)
Contract: Temporary (3–6 Months)
Rate: £380 per day (DOE)
Hours: 37 hours per week

The Opportunity
Connect2Dorset is seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to support Dorset Council's diverse property portfolio. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated surveyor with strong technical expertise in property maintenance, compliance, and capital project delivery within a public sector environment.
You will play a key role in ensuring council-owned assets remain safe, compliant, and well maintained while delivering value for money through effective contract and project management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage planned and reactive repairs and maintenance programmes across a varied property portfolio.
- Ensure statutory compliance, asset safety, and building maintenance standards are met.
- Deliver capital repair and improvement projects valued at £100,000+, from procurement through to completion.
- Prepare specifications, tender documentation, and oversee contractor performance.
- Manage project budgets, procurement activities, and contractual obligations.
- Monitor property performance, maintain accurate asset records, and utilise digital property management systems.
- Build strong working relationships with internal departments, contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure works comply with relevant legislation, health & safety requirements, and Dorset Council policies.

Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Degree in Building Surveying or a related construction discipline (or equivalent relevant qualification/experience).
Experience
- Proven experience delivering planned and reactive maintenance programmes.
- Experience managing capital works and repair projects.
- Strong background in contractor, budget, and stakeholder management.
- Experience within a Local Authority or public sector environment is highly desirable.
Skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement, and property legislation.
- Proficient with digital property management and asset systems.
- Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently.

Additional Information
- Significant travel across Dorset will be required.
