Business Analyst (Investment Finance Operations)
Location: York, London
Hybrid flexible
Duration: Initial 6-month contract (Project running until March 2027)
IR35
This is a contract opportunity for someone who is an experienced Business Analyst with a strong background in Financial Services, Investment Management, or Investment Operations. This role would suit someone who can quickly immerse themselves in a complex change programme, engage with a wide range of stakeholders, and deliver high-quality business analysis throughout a major custodian migration and investment analytics transformation.
You'll be comfortable working in fast-paced environments, managing multiple workstreams, facilitating workshops, and translating business requirements into actionable solutions. The ideal candidate will be able to operate autonomously while collaborating effectively across business and technology teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, analyse, document, and validate business requirements across Investment Finance Operations processes.
- Translate business needs into functional specifications, user stories, process maps, and business documentation.
- Support a strategic custodian transfer and migration to Investment Analytics tooling.
- Conduct impact assessments and contribute to solution design activities.
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder meetings to elicit requirements and drive decision-making.
- Act as the liaison between business teams, technology teams, and external vendors.
- Support testing activities, including System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Analyse existing operational processes and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and automation.
- Review investment operations workflows, including trade lifecycle processing, reconciliations, reporting, and finance-related activities.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Back Office, Middle Office, Finance, Risk, Technology, and third-party providers.
- Support change implementation activities and ensure successful delivery of project outcomes.
- Communicate complex business and technical concepts to a variety of audiences.

Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience working as a Business Analyst within Financial Services.
- Strong requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation skills.
- Exposure to custodian migration, platform migration, or large-scale transformation programmes.
- Experience producing business requirements documents, functional specifications, user stories, and process flows.
- Demonstrable experience supporting business change and transformation initiatives.
- Strong stakeholder management and workshop facilitation skills.
- Experience working across both business and technology teams.
- Ability to analyse complex processes and identify improvement opportunities.
- Experience supporting testing and implementation activities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Highly Desirable
- Experience within Investment Management, Asset Management, Investment Operations, or Investment Finance.
- Knowledge of investment operations processes, including:
- Trade lifecycle management
- Reconciliations
- Investment reporting
- Investment accounting
- NAV production
- Experience working with Investment Analytics platforms and related data environments.
- Knowledge of regulatory and operational controls within investment businesses.
