Senior Business Analyst (AI & Commodities Trading)
Location: London, UK (Hybrid - 2 days per week in the office)
Contract: 6-12 Months
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to support the delivery and expansion of innovative AI-enabled solutions within a leading global commodities trading environment.
This role is ideal for someone who combines deep expertise in Commodities Trading with a strong understanding of AI, Generative AI, data-driven products, and digital transformation initiatives. You will act as the critical bridge between business stakeholders and technology teams, helping shape and deliver solutions that drive commercial value and operational efficiency across trading and supply functions.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis Leadership
- Lead discovery, requirements gathering, business analysis, and process modelling activities across strategic initiatives.
- Translate complex business challenges into clear functional and technical requirements.
- Facilitate workshops with traders, operators, schedulers, commercial teams, product owners, and technology stakeholders.
- Define user stories, business processes, capability maps, acceptance criteria, and measurable business outcomes.
- Drive alignment between business, product, data, and engineering teams.
AI & Digital Product Enablement
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI and Generative AI across trading and commercial workflows.
- Collaborate with AI engineers, data scientists, and developers to deliver AI-powered solutions.
- Support product discovery, MVP definition, and scaling of successful AI products.
- Translate business challenges into AI and Large Language Model (LLM) use cases.
- Assess business value, adoption opportunities, and operational impact of AI-enabled solutions.

Stakeholder Management
- Partner with senior stakeholders across Trading, Commercial, Product, and Technology functions.
- Build strong relationships across global teams and business units.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Influence decision-making and facilitate consensus across multiple delivery teams.
Commodities Trading Analysis
- Provide expertise across areas including:
- Refined Products Trading
- Crude Trading
- Deal Capture & Trade Lifecycle Management
- Commercial Operations
- Scheduling & Logistics
- Inventory Management
- Supply & Distribution
- Blending & Optimisation
- Risk & Exposure Management
- Margin and P&L Analysis
- Trading Analytics & Decision Support
- Front, Middle, and Back Office Processes
Essential Skills & Experience
Must-Have
- Extensive Business Analysis experience within Commodities Trading, Energy Trading, or related trading environments.
- Strong knowledge of products trading processes and trading value chains.
- Proven experience working directly with traders, operators, planners, schedulers, and commercial stakeholders.
- Experience delivering or supporting AI, Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics, or Generative AI initiatives.
- Understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI product lifecycles.
- Ability to translate business requirements into AI-driven use cases.
- Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation programmes.
- Strong workshop facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing abilities.

- Previous experience mentoring Business Analysts and contributing to BA best practices.
