Job Title: Senior Business Analyst - Energy Sector
Client Experience Required
Location: Hybrid – Worthing (1 Day/Week Onsite)
Duration: 6 Months+
Rate: 550 GBP/Day Inside IR35
Overview
Our Energy sector client is seeking an experienced Business Analyst to support the delivery of business and technology change initiatives. Reporting initially to the Portfolio Solutions Manager, the Business Analyst will work closely with business stakeholders, technology teams, and delivery partners to understand business needs, analyse problems and opportunities, and translate requirements into clear, practical, and deliverable outputs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and maintaining Business Analysis artefacts, including requirements documents, process maps, data models, user stories, acceptance criteria, options analysis, and supporting documentation. They will also support projects involving business systems, data flows, integrations, customer-facing processes, billing, CRM, and operational change, ensuring business requirements are effectively captured, documented, and delivered throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
The Business Analyst is accountable and responsible for:
- Investigating business situations, problems and opportunities where there is complexity, ambiguity or a need for structured analysis.
- Eliciting, analysing, validating and documenting business, functional and non-functional requirements in a form that is clear, complete, traceable and fit for purpose.
- Working with stakeholders to define scope, assumptions, constraints, dependencies, risks and priorities for assigned change initiatives.
- Producing and maintaining Business Analysis artefacts, including requirements documents, process maps, data models, user stories, acceptance criteria, options analysis and supporting documentation.
- Analysing current and future business processes to identify improvement opportunities, operational impacts and practical implementation considerations.
- Supporting solution design by ensuring that business needs, process impacts, data requirements and integration considerations are understood by delivery teams and suppliers.
- Contributing to business cases and options analysis by assessing operational, technical, financial and risk implications.
- Supporting testing, implementation and transition activities by clarifying requirements, validating solution alignment and helping resolve defects or business questions.
- Applying agreed Business Analysis standards, templates, methods and governance consistently across assigned work.
- Maintaining clear, accessible and reusable analysis outputs that support delivery, operational continuity and organisational learning.

Success in the role will be demonstrated through:
- Delivery of Business Analysis outputs that are timely, accurate, complete, traceable and fit for purpose.
- Requirements and supporting artefacts that enable effective decision-making, solution design, delivery, testing and implementation.
- Successful delivery of assigned projects and change initiatives through effective analysis, clear communication and practical problem solving.
- Positive feedback from business stakeholders, technology teams and delivery partners regarding the quality, clarity and usefulness of Business Analysis work.
- Effective identification, analysis and communication of risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies and impacts relevant to assigned change activity.
- Consistent application of agreed Business Analysis standards, methods, templates and governance.
- Identification of opportunities to improve business processes, operational efficiency, customer outcomes and organisational effectiveness.
- Demonstration of the Client values and behaviours in collaboration, delivery and stakeholder engagement.
Experience
What the person has done
The Business Analyst should be able to demonstrate relevant experience of:
- Working in the energy sector or another complex, regulated industry.
- Working as a Business Analyst within a technology delivery environment.
- Eliciting, analysing, documenting and managing requirements across the project or change lifecycle.
- Business process analysis, process mapping and process improvement.
- Working with business stakeholders, technology teams, delivery partners and third-party suppliers to support successful change delivery.
- Producing clear and practical analysis artefacts, such as requirements documents, user stories, acceptance criteria, process models, data models and decision papers.
- Supporting projects involving business systems, data flows, integrations, customer-facing processes, billing, CRM or operational change.
- Supporting testing, implementation, change readiness or transition activities through clarification of requirements and business impacts.

KNOWLEDGE
- The retail energy industry, including its business processes, systems, data, regulatory context and customer impacts.
- Business Analysis principles, methodologies and good practice throughout the project and change lifecycle.
- Requirements engineering techniques, including elicitation, analysis, validation, prioritisation, traceability and change control.
- Business process modelling and design techniques, including practical use of process maps and related analysis models.
- Data modelling concepts and the application of data analysis to business requirements and solution design.
- Project delivery approaches, including Agile, Waterfall and hybrid delivery methods.
- Stakeholder analysis, facilitation, interviewing, workshop support and consensus-building techniques.
- Governance, risk, issue and quality management practices relevant to Business Analysis in a regulated environment.
