Job Description:

About the Role:

As the biofuels market grows rapidly across the globe, BP's Supply, Trading & Shipping organization has developed a technology modernization programme to support its growth strategy in bioliquids and biogas. The Bio Technology team has a long roadmap to develop transformational solutions which includes the creation of a strategic platform for certificate management. This team supports the sustainability operations team who sits in the day-to-day execution layer of sustainability compliance and tracking for our physical trading business. They ensure that every bio trade we transact is fully traceable, properly certified, regulator-compliant, and reconciled against trading positions.

This is a unique opportunity as a Senior Business Analyst to partner with our sustainability team to deliver creative technology solutions that underpin license to operate for our trading business and allow us to achieve our carbon net-zero goals.

We have an exciting and challenging, digital vision to support business growth while redefining the day-to-day activities of operators through increased automation.

What You Will Deliver:

  • User research: Engage with users, observe and analyze their workflows, and extract relevant insights about how they perform a process and interact with a product or system. This involves uncovering pain points, process mapping, pattern recognition, and connecting takeaways to potential solutions.
  • Requirements definition: Take responsibility for eliciting requirements through various techniques such as interviews, workshops, and document analysis. Lead workshops to assemble and refine requirements, consider trade-offs, and ensure a clear understanding of system constraints.
  • Agile delivery: You will partner with a mature and cross-functional Agile project team which includes other business analysts, software engineers, and UI/UX designers to develop solutions that meet business needs.
  • Relationship management: Build strong relationships with commercial and technology partners at all levels within a distributed team, ensuring effective communication, alignment, and collaboration.
  • Business process change: Lead business process workshops to analyze and map business processes, find opportunities for process improvements, and implement changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Data analysis: Analyze and model data requirements, understand data models and database design to support sophisticated datasets, and provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to support decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Strong business analysis and functional design skills.

  • Experience with Agile delivery.
  • Experience as part of a business-facing, technology team in a high-pressure, dynamic industry, or business area.

  • Self-motivated and self-starter – able to work with minimal direction and pick up new or unfamiliar concepts quickly.
  • Good communicator, able to deliver a message effectively and concisely at all levels including senior management.

Desirable criteria & qualifications:

  • Business knowledge of commodity (ideally oil) or financial trading.
  • Business knowledge of global sustainability regulations, certification schemes, and market compliance programs, such as RED III and RFS.
  • Experience working in commodity or financial markets front-office, middle-office, or operations technology teams.
  • Experience working in global, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experience working in brownfield sites, where the work requires creating new solutions within an existing array of highly integrated systems.
