Senior Business Development Executive
We are recruiting a Senior Business Development Executive to help drive the next stage of commercial growth across Gilligan Engineering Services and NDT Electronic Services.
This is not a people management role and it is not a passive account management position. We are looking for somebody who enjoys finding opportunities, understanding what customers actually need and taking personal ownership of the commercial process from first conversation through to proposal, follow up, negotiation and handover.
Working across our Prudhoe and Jarrow businesses, you will sell a broad mix of technical products, services, equipment hire and wider solutions to industrial customers.
The role will include:
- Developing new customers through structured prospecting
- Growing and protecting existing customer relationships
- Reactivating dormant accounts
- Identifying genuine cross sell and additional business opportunities
- Conducting customer visits, demonstrations and presentations
- Preparing and proactively following up quotations and proposals
- Managing your own sales pipeline, CRM activity and forecasts
- Working alongside technical colleagues to develop the right customer solution
- Building productive relationships with suppliers and product partners
- Applying sound commercial judgement around pricing, margin and negotiation

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
