The Department

The Marketing & BD team at Farrer & Co is responsible for development and implementation of the firm’s marketing strategy, including profile and reputation, marketing communications, and business development. This extends to all aspects of marketing planning, brand management, campaigns, events, CRM, market and client analysis, pitches and tenders, website, content and digital strategy.

Areas of Focus

The firm’s strategy is focused on three core markets: Private Wealth, Private Capital and Institutions. Our Institutions core market brings together our work for charities and other not-for-profit organisations, schools and higher education institutions, sports organisations and sovereign clients.

We have developed significant expertise in advising institutions on the full range of legal, regulatory, governance, commercial, employment, property and contentious issues they face. Our multidisciplinary teams work collaboratively to provide practical, joined-up advice that reflects each client’s particular purpose, structure and operating environment. These sectors, and the relationships and opportunities within them, will form the principal focus of the role.

Scope

The firm is continuing to invest in its Marketing and Business Development team. We are seeking a Senior Business Development Executive to join us on a fixed-term basis, providing maternity cover across our Institutions core market.

Reporting to the Business Development Manager for Institutions, you will support business development activity across our not-for-profit, schools, higher education and sovereign advisory sectors. The role is varied and includes events, campaigns, pitches and credentials, client and intermediary targeting, and the delivery of sector plans.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
