We have a great opportunity for a Senior Business Development Manager within our Energy Solutions business at Equans to continue our drive to grow this crucial part of our business.
Equans Energy Solutions is a market leading engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor focussed on delivering energy transition solutions for our customers. The team deliver projects for a wide variety of customers and a broad set of technologies. Our energy solutions are categorised in the following segments:
- Solar & Storage - Transmission and distribution connected PV, BESS and Hybrid Projects
- Substation Works - Contestable works up-to 400kV
- On-Site Solutions – Behind the meter energy interventions such as co-located renewables, energy networks & energy efficiency measures
- Hydrogen – Electrolytic hydrogen production and fuel switching projects
Key Activities
You will have particular accountability for the Solar & Storage segment where, alongside the Energy Business Development Director, you will have ownership for lead generation and pipeline prioritisation for Solar & Storage opportunities. You will be a spokesperson for the business and will have line management responsibility for a solar and storage leaning Business Development Manager.
Your primary responsibility in this role will be to sign Solar & Storage EPC contracts to deliver on Equans’ medium term plan. This will involve the following activities:
- Find, own and maintain customer relationships across the private and public sector. Engage directly with clients at pre tender stage to support with the technical and commercial structuring of their projects
- Ensure all opportunities are captured in Salesforce and prioritise the pipeline of Solar & Storage projects
- Autonomously lead the bid process for selected opportunities acting as the primary client interface and internal project manager, coordinating technical, pricing and legal workstreams and ensuring governance requirements are met
- Lead the negotiation of PCSA’s and EPC contracts
- Manage the Equans internal governance process by structuring projects that are aligned with Equans’ golden rules. Prepare, present and gain approval for projects at Equans governance meetings
- Own customer relationships until EPC contract signature, including project management of Pre-Construction Services contracts, to ensure projects are technically and commercially suitable for subsequent EPC delivery
- Maintain customer relationships throughout delivery to ensure Equans remains partner of choice for future projects
- Line management responsibility for a Business Development Manager, managing their workload and overseeing & supporting their bids
- Lead the development of marketing collateral, thought leadership pieces and social media campaigns
- Establish relationships with supply chain and trade associations and extract value from these relationships
- Collaborate with Equans UK, Equans Group, Bouygues Group and external partners to continually refine our delivery model

Skills, qualifications & experience
Qualifications
Assessment will be based on experience and capability, rather than qualifications
Professional Experience
- Demonstrable sales experience with utility scale PV & BESS projects a track record of signing EPC projects >£50m
- Experience establishing, developing and maintaining customer relationships
- Comfortable with line management and managing internal project teams and governance processes
- Strong commercial acumen and experience negotiating EPC contracts
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including C-suite engagement
- Experience managing multidisciplinary bid teams and coordinating pre-construction activities
- Experience with Salesforce
