Senior Business Development Manager - Central Government Consulting

£70,000-£85,000 base

Home-based | London Once per Week Desired

Central Government | Technology Consulting

New Business

We're partnering with an established UK technology services and consulting business looking to hire a Senior Business Development Manager to grow its presence across Central Government.

This is a senior new-business role for someone who knows the Central Government market, understands how departments buy professional services and has a track record of turning relationships into consulting or project-based work.

The business has an established delivery capability and existing routes into the public sector. They're now looking for someone commercially strong who can open new conversations, identify opportunities and win work across technology and transformation programmes.

The role

You'll take ownership of a new-business Central Government territory, with a focus on developing new client relationships and building a strong pipeline of consulting opportunities.

The solutions you'll be taking to market sit across areas such as:

  • AI and emerging technology
  • Cloud and engineering
  • Digital transformation
  • Technology consulting
  • Professional services
  • Statement of Work and project-based delivery

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll be expected to get close to the market, understand where departments are investing and build relationships with the people responsible for technology and transformation programmes.

That will include a mixture of direct business development, networking, events, existing market relationships and working through public-sector procurement routes.

You'll also work closely with consulting and delivery teams to shape opportunities properly, making sure what is being sold is commercially viable and can be delivered.

This is very much a new-logo role. There may be existing relationships and routes to market to work from, but the expectation is that you can create opportunities yourself rather than simply manage an established account base.

Who we're looking for

Previous experience selling into Central Government is essential.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience selling consulting, professional services, SOW or project-based solutions into Central Government
  • A very strong background in new-business development
  • Good knowledge of public-sector procurement and framework-led sales
  • Evidence of personally winning projects and new clients
  • Experience selling complex technology or transformation services
  • The confidence to build relationships with senior stakeholders
  • A clear understanding of how to move an opportunity from an initial conversation through to commercial close

We're open-minded on where that experience has been gained.

You could come from a technology consultancy, professional-services business, systems integrator or a solutions-led staffing organisation.

Candidates from recruitment or staffing backgrounds can be relevant, but the important distinction is having sold project or SOW-based solutions, rather than purely permanent recruitment or individual contractor supply.

Why it's worth considering

You'll be joining a business that already has an established technology proposition, experienced delivery teams and a track record of working across the public sector.

They're investing further into Central Government and want someone who can take genuine ownership of the market, build new relationships and help shape the next phase of growth.

There's plenty of autonomy in the role, with the opportunity to build something meaningful rather than inherit a heavily worked account patch.

If you've personally won consulting, professional services or SOW work into Central Government and enjoy the front end of the sales process, I'd be keen to speak.
