Senior Business Development Manager – Export Markets (Defence)

Remote | UK

PSD Group have been retained by a well-established Defence and Government organisation to appoint a Senior Business Development Manager – Export Markets. This is a senior, commercially focused role for an experienced Defence BD professional with a proven track record of originating, developing and winning significant new business. The company is looking to appoint someone who is comfortable operating at senior level, understands the Defence and Government landscape, and has the commercial judgement and tenacity to take opportunities from initial engagement through to contract award.

The role:

You will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities across the company's Defence and Government markets, with a particular focus on new customers, new markets, new geographies and export opportunities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Originate and develop new business opportunities across Defence and Government markets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior Government and Military stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of opportunities through the full business development cycle, from initial identification through to successful contract award.
  • Develop and manage a robust sales pipeline, with clear and accurate forecasting of orders and revenue.
  • Develop and maintain BD plans, providing clear visibility of opportunities, progress and risks to senior leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to expand into new markets, geographies and customer groups.
  • Represent the company at relevant Defence trade shows, industry events and thought leadership opportunities.
  • Work closely with technical and delivery teams to shape propositions and develop solutions aligned to customer requirements.
  • Contribute to the continued development and performance of the wider Business Development function.

About you

The key requirement is proven success in winning Defence and Government business.

You are likely to bring:

  • Significant Business Development experience within the Defence and/or Government sector.
  • An established network and credible relationships with senior Government and/or Military stakeholders.
  • A demonstrable track record of closing six- and seven-figure deals.
  • The ability and appetite to originate opportunities, rather than simply manage an established account base or inherited pipeline.
  • Strong commercial judgement and experience managing the full BD and sales process through to negotiation and contract award.
  • The credibility to engage with senior customers and stakeholders and influence decision-making.
  • Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Export business development experience would be highly desirable.
  • A recognised strategic selling qualification, such as Shipley or Miller Heiman, would be advantageous.
