Company Description

Dormor Machine & Engineering is a subcontract precision machining company with over 40 years of experience delivering components from small parts to large, complex projects. The company operates a 1,310m² workshop with extensive Horizontal and Vertical Boring, Turning, Milling, and associated services, including lifting capacity up to 10 tonnes. Using a comprehensive CNC machining department, Dormor provides turnkey solutions for diverse machining requirements to blue chip companies and critical industries, including nuclear and offshore wind. Dormor is ISO 9001:2015 accredited, JOSCAR approved, Cyber Essentials Plus certified, and maintains a temperature-controlled inspection room for high-specification finishes. The company invests in a strong apprenticeship program and knowledge transfer culture, emphasizing quality, reliability, and engineering excellence.

Role Description

The Senior Business Development Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Middlesbrough. This role is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities in target sectors such as nuclear, offshore wind, and other critical industries, while expanding relationships with existing customers. The Senior Business Development Manager will research markets, qualify leads, prepare proposals and bids, and collaborate with engineering and operations teams to align customer requirements with Dormor’s machining capabilities and quality standards.

The role also involves representing Dormor at industry events, supporting marketing initiatives, and providing regular performance reporting to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in business development, sales, or account management within precision machining, engineering, or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong skills in relationship building, stakeholder management, and customer engagement, with the ability to work closely with technical and commercial teams.
  • Experience in developing and executing sales strategies, managing pipelines and forecasts, and negotiating commercial terms and contracts.
  • Ability to understand technical specifications, engineering drawings, and machining capabilities, and translate them into clear customer proposals.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing skills, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfort working on-site in a workshop and industrial environment, with a proactive and organized approach to managing multiple projects.
  • Background in serving critical industries (e.g., nuclear, offshore wind, oil and gas, heavy engineering) is highly beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with quality standards and certifications (e.g., ISO 9001, JOSCAR, Cyber Essentials) and long-term contract delivery is an advantage.
