About Vulcain Engineering
Vulcain Engineering is an international engineering consultancy supporting global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and over 6,000 employees worldwide, we deliver high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients' most complex challenges.
In the UK, we have a key focus within the Nuclear sector, contributing to some of the industry's most significant programmes and helping our clients deliver major projects safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
The Position - Senior Business Manager
Due to significant business growth, increasing workload across existing frameworks, and the continued expansion of our Nuclear portfolio, we are looking to appoint a Senior Business Manager to join our leadership team based in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a strategic and highly influential role within the business. You will be responsible for leading and growing a portfolio of key client accounts, developing new business opportunities, and driving sustainable revenue growth across major nuclear programmes and frameworks. As the senior client-facing representative for your portfolio, you will act as a trusted partner to clients while ensuring excellent delivery, commercial performance, and consultant engagement.
This role combines leadership, account management, business development, and operational delivery. Whilst you may lead and develop a team of Business Managers, this is a hands-on position requiring someone who enjoys building relationships, winning work, supporting delivery, and stepping into the detail when required. We are therefore seeking an entrepreneurial leader who can balance strategic growth with day-to-day execution and who thrives in a fast-paced consultancy environment.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Senior Business Manager will include:
- Own and grow a portfolio of strategic client accounts, holding overall responsibility for revenue growth, profitability, utilisation and customer satisfaction.
- Act as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for senior client stakeholders across major nuclear programmes, frameworks and projects.
- Lead business development activities, identifying, pursuing and securing new opportunities, frameworks, bids, proposals and consultancy contracts.
- Develop and execute account growth strategies to increase market share, expand service offerings and maximise long-term client value.
- Provide leadership, coaching and support to Business Managers and delivery teams, ensuring high performance and alignment with business objectives.
- Maintain full commercial accountability across your business area, including forecasting, pricing strategy, resource planning, margin performance and P&L management.
- Collaborate closely with recruitment, operations and delivery teams to ensure successful mobilisation, consultant engagement and project execution.
- Represent Vulcain at industry events, networking forums and client engagements, strengthening our brand presence and supporting continued business growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
