Senior Business Validation Analyst / Team Lead
Permanent | £45,000
Full-time | 40 Hours per Week | Remote Initially
We’re partnering with a growing business to appoint an experienced Senior Business Validation Analyst / Team Lead to join its business validation function.
This is a hands-on senior role for someone with strong experience across merchant underwriting, business onboarding, KYB/KYC, financial crime, business information or investigative research, combined with the confidence to support colleagues, manage complex cases and maintain high standards of quality and consistency.
The role will combine individual casework with broader team leadership responsibilities, with the precise balance shaped around the successful candidate’s experience and strengths.
The Opportunity
As Senior Business Validation Analyst / Team Lead, you’ll play a key role in supporting the quality, consistency and effectiveness of the validation function.
- Continue to review complex business validation cases
- Help colleagues navigate difficult decisions
- Provide second-level review and escalation support
- Contribute to the day-to-day management of permanent and flexible team members
This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys combining detailed analytical casework with coaching, operational oversight and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll play a key role in supporting business validation activity by:
- Investigating complex business ownership, trading-name, franchise, group and brand relationships.
- Assessing screening concerns including sanctions, PEP and adverse-media alerts.
- Providing second-level review and escalation support in line with established procedures.
- Making clear, evidence-based decisions on complex or uncertain cases.
- Supporting reviewers with difficult cases and helping drive consistency in decision-making.
- Reviewing the quality and consistency of case decisions, supporting evidence and case notes.
- Providing practical and constructive feedback to colleagues.
- Identifying recurring errors, knowledge gaps and training requirements.
- Supporting the onboarding, training and development of new team members.
- Helping maintain consistent standards across permanent and flexible/temporary reviewers.
- Taking ownership of daily work allocation and queue priorities where required.
- Monitoring workloads and supporting appropriate staffing coverage.
- Helping ensure cases progress within agreed turnaround times.
- Supporting reviewer performance, productivity and development.
- Coordinating permanent and flexible validation resources to meet operational demand.
- Identifying and helping resolve delivery, quality and capacity concerns.
- Turning recurring case issues and quality findings into clear, practical guidance.
- Identifying opportunities to improve validation processes, controls and reviewer guidance.
- Working with technical teams to support improvements to automation and workflow.
- Ensuring system-generated information is interpreted correctly and supplemented with further research where required.
- Continuing to complete hands-on business validation casework alongside the wider team.

About You
You’ll be an experienced validation, underwriting, compliance or financial-crime professional with strong individual judgement and the ability to achieve consistent results through others.
You will also have:
- Strong experience in merchant underwriting, business onboarding, KYB/KYC, financial crime, business information or investigative research.
- Experience handling complex or escalated validation cases.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills.
- Confidence assessing sanctions, PEP and adverse-media concerns.
- Experience making well-reasoned, evidence-backed decisions.
- Previous experience supporting, supervising or coaching colleagues.
- Experience allocating work, managing quality or supporting operational delivery.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- The ability to identify recurring quality issues and translate them into practical improvements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- The ability to balance hands-on casework with wider team responsibilities.
- A collaborative, supportive approach to coaching and team development.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
