Senior Buyer - Cumbria
Exclusive opportunity managed by Butler Rose Procurement & Supply Chain
Butler Rose Procurement & Supply Chain is delighted to be supporting an established and highly regarded manufacturing business with the appointment of a Senior Buyer.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to join a well-established organisation where you will play an important role in managing supplier relationships, delivering commercial value and ensuring the effective procurement of goods and services across the business.
The client is a leading global manufacturer of highly specialised films, supplying a range of international markets and operating within a technically advanced manufacturing environment.
The Role
Reporting into the Planning & Procurement Manager, you will take responsibility for a broad range of procurement activities, ensuring goods and services are sourced competitively, efficiently and in line with business requirements.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, balancing commercial objectives with quality, service, compliance and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage procurement activity across a varied portfolio of goods and services, ensuring competitive commercial outcomes and strong overall value.
- Lead supplier negotiations, considering the wider cost implications of purchasing decisions rather than simply focusing on initial price.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with existing and prospective suppliers.
- Source products and services from suitably approved suppliers, ensuring requirements around quality, specification, quantity, cost and delivery are consistently achieved.
- Monitor supplier performance and work collaboratively to resolve any issues relating to quality, pricing, delivery or service.
- Take ownership of the purchase order process, ensuring orders are accurately raised, acknowledged and maintained within the procurement system.
- Investigate and resolve purchasing discrepancies, including pricing, delivery and invoice-related issues.
- Ensure procurement activity complies with relevant legislation, company policies and internal controls.
- Support the organisation's quality and accreditation requirements, including adherence to relevant ISO and BRC standards.
- Work closely with internal departments to understand requirements and ensure procurement activity supports operational priorities.
- Assist with monthly procurement reporting, providing visibility of commercial opportunities, risks, supplier performance and areas requiring attention.
- Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, supplier arrangements and overall value delivered to the business.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and ensure systems and documentation remain up to date.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
