Senior Buyer

Galldris Group

Location: Birmingham, B37 7WY

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Buyer to join our Birmingham Office. The Senior Buyer will be responsible for the strategic sourcing, negotiation and procurement of high-value goods, materials and services. They will ensure that purchases meet the required specifications while achieving the best balance of price, quality and continuity of supply in line with key project deadlines. The Senior Buyer will also support the site and commercial teams with pricing and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Buyer, you will play a key role within the procurement function, sourcing and purchasing materials, goods and services for our construction projects and wider business operations. You will ensure that all requirements are delivered on time, to the correct specification and at the best possible value. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Place comprehensive material orders that accurately reflect contractual and project requirements.
  • Have the core ability to secure favourable pricing, delivery schedules, and contract terms that directly impact company profitability.
  • Monitor market trends and manage supply chain risks to ensure a continuous and timely flow of goods.
  • Source, evaluate, and build long-term relationships with key supply chain partners.
  • Support the Estimating Team on selected tenders.
  • Support the Accounts Team by ensuring that all material orders are clearly placed with relevant information and key rates.
  • Support the site and commercial teams with technical and procurement requirements.
  • Understand the bid, with specific emphasis on key rates used.
  • Work collaboratively with the Site Team, providing up-to-date, relevant information on the status of material deliveries and orders.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of this position.
  • Comply with Company policies & procedures.

This role requires excellent organisational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to effectively support multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications/ Experience/Knowledge:

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in Buying and have strong materials buying knowledge in civils and groundworks.
  • Experience within Construction / Civil Engineering sector.

Desirable Criteria:

  • A Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) qualification or relevant membership.
  • Experience working within a large, multi-business-unit or project-based environment.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management tools and industry best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when reviewing contractual obligations and placing orders.

Skills:

  • IT literate.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Meticulous, organised, proactive with a positive attitude, and willing to learn.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills to build relationships and manage suppliers, negotiate prices, and place orders.
  • Strong people skills with the ability to liaise with all levels of personnel.
