Senior Buyer

About the job

We are looking for a Senior Buyer to join the CIU team, based in Aberdeen.

The Senior Buyer will be responsible for the Procurement of Materials and Services in accordance with Company procedures ensuring that all Procurement transactions for the CIU business are auditable, and Purchase Orders are closed out expediently.

This role will report to the Financial Controller - CIU.

The main tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Inventory control – together with the Operations and Finance team, monitor stock levels, optimise inventory turnover and minimise shortages/excess.
  • Cost optimisation - contribute to and drive cost efficiency improvements by challenging requirements and ensuring best cost, time and quality objectives are met.
  • Work with the workshop to maintain Kanban components to desired levels.
  • Take ownership of all procurement activities, actively participate in operational and planning meetings, working closely with the engineering team on manufacturing projects to manage costs and lead times associated with the bill of materials.
  • Onboard suppliers onto the online supplier portal, Vendorse.
  • Support new supplier approval process and manage AVL.
  • Support with supplier evaluation review forms to ensure performance is reviewed and updated in supplier portal.
  • Weekly expediting and reporting.
  • Follow up with suppliers and Operations team on any delays to understand impacts.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Process purchase orders in M3 – ensuring timely placement of orders.
  • Maintain and manage effective electronic and manual filing systems.
  • Support with the cleanse of item parts in M3.
  • Implement environmentally sustainable practices across the supply chain where possible.
  • Provide cover for Travel and Logistics as required.
  • Undertaking any other activities and support as determined by line manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the purchasing process is adhered to.
  • Strategic management of supplier relationships.
  • Challenge stock levels using stock efficiency metrics in conjunction with finance.
  • Ensure master and pricing data within M3 is accurate and up to date.
  • Participate in and contribute to a positive HSE culture.
  • Ensure integrity and due diligence requirements are complied with at all times.
  • Engage in and manage supplier audits from a procurement perspective.

Key Skills, Experience and Attributes:

  • Prior experience in a Procurement role;
  • Chartered with CIPS would be advantageous;
  • Knowledge of supply chain, commercial evaluation and terms and conditions of purchase would be beneficial;
  • Experience of working in a high-pressured operational environment preferred;
  • Excellent IT skills - proficient in the use of M3 and Microsoft packages preferred;
  • Proactive, takes responsibility for own actions and projects;
  • Effective working within a small team;
  • Ability to take on wide ranging tasks;
  • Ability to build wide and effective networks of contacts inside and outside the Company;
  • Manages conflict and disagreements effectively;
  • Ability to work in a systematic and orderly way, with high attention to detail.
