Are you a commercially minded buying expert with a flair for product development?
An outstanding retail business is on the hunt for an experienced Senior Buyer to join their dynamic Category team. This is a brilliant opportunity to take true ownership of both branded and own-label ranges—including seasonal and outdoor living lines—ensuring customers receive exceptional value, quality, and choice.
Reporting directly to the Category Manager, the successful candidate will shape high-performing ranges, negotiate key supplier partnerships, and lead products seamlessly from initial concept through to store shelf and online launch.
What The Role Entails
In this fast-paced position, the Senior Buyer will drive category performance and deliver strong sales growth by:
- Developing and launching compelling branded and own-label ranges based on market trends, sales data, and customer insights.
- Sourcing new products, conducting robust supplier reviews, and securing maximum value and promotional support.
- Managing every stage from initial sample reviews to in-store visual merchandising and stock forecasting.
- Setting clear objectives, coaching, and mentoring a Trainee or Junior Buyer to support team growth.
- Partnering seamlessly with Logistics, Retail Ops, Product Safety, Graphics, and Finance teams.
- Keeping ahead of market trends through competitor analysis, store visits, and attending key industry trade shows (occasional travel required).

What They Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will combine strong commercial acumen with a genuine passion for retail. Key requirements include:
- Extensive buying and merchandising experience in a fast-paced retail environment (ideally within seasonal, outdoor living, branded, or own-label categories).
- A recognised qualification in retail buying/merchandising, a degree equivalent, or significant hands-on industry experience.
- Proven negotiation skills with a track record of building long-term, mutually beneficial supplier relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to manage supplier performance, streamline processes, and nurture junior talent.
- Willingness to travel as needed for supplier meetings, store visits, and trade shows.
