Job Description

Senior Buyer (Strategic)

Location

Woodchester or Miskin

Salary

up to £46,000 depending on experience

Working Hours

3 days onsite, 2 days from home (4.5 day working week, half day Fridays)

As part of the Group Manufacturing Services Division (GMSD) the Procurement Department identifies and manages the procurement of parts and services contributing to the full manufacturing service of our proprietary products. This is a growing global function with new and exciting requirements and challenges. The candidate will be part of a team in a fast-paced environment primarily based at either our Woodchester or Miskin site with opportunities to be involved in the complex and challenge a wide range of products, commodities, and suppliers from around the world.


Role Overview

We are looking for a commercially astute, enthusiastic, and driven strategic buyer to deliver a specific portfolio of Electronic Components on time, to the highest quality and best value, whilst also considering risk, compliance, and sustainability. You will take pride in your personal development, you are curious, kind and you will own your work and deliver.

Responsibilities

  • Effective management and control of supply chains to ensure that excellent service levels are maintained, and that production requirements and time scales are met.
  • Supplier price negotiation and management to ensure cost management targets are realised.
  • Control of stock and planning parameters within an ERP environment, ensuring minimum stock levels are managed consistent with risk analysis.
  • Proactive and ongoing identification and management of Risk.
  • Lead commercial negotiations and contract management with key suppliers.
  • Monitoring of supplier performance, define and implement supplier improvement plans where necessary.
  • Development of sourcing strategies to ensure they align with the technical and commercial needs of the business.
  • Liaison both internally and externally to support resolution of quality and supply related issues and problems.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ procurement experience in a manufacturing environment and demonstrate a strategic approach to commodity purchasing.
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally will be required for this role.
  • Strong problem solving and supplier management skills.
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to analyse data and make informed decisions.
  • Degree, CIPS qualifications, completed Modern Apprenticeship or demonstrable time served.
  • Skilled in MRP/ERP, Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
  • Full driving licence.

Desirable Requirements

  • An understanding of supplier manufacturing processes would be an advantage.
  • Experience of MRP/ERP and Stock Control processes will be a distinct advantage, although training will be provided to the right candidate.

Person Specification

As the successful applicant for this position, you will be a strategic thinker and be willing and able to challenge custom and practice to achieve positive outcome in the areas of processes and supply chain management. You will also have excellent negotiation skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to creatively solve problems and drive change that improve business performance and sustainability.

You will value relationships and will respond well to change. You will contribute, individually and as part of a team, to overall success.

You will be self-motivated and hold a positive attitude and outlook. Accuracy and attention to detail are important to you and allow you to achieve success in your role within the fast-paced procurement environment. You will be comfortable communicating to people at all levels of the business and will be able to demonstrate the value you can bring in working as part of a team.
