We're looking for
An experienced and commercially-minded Senior Buying Manager to join our team at Co-op. Right now, our Beers, Wines and Spirits (BWS) category is one of the most exciting places to be. With strong customer interest, external visibility, and a real opportunity to differentiate, this is your chance to shape a category that plays a big role in how customers experience Co-op Food.

We're investing in new ways of working, building capability across our teams and creating a stronger, more customer-focused Commercial function. You’ll play a leading role in that journey, bringing fresh thinking, commercial expertise and strategic direction to drive sustainable growth.

What you'll do
- Own and deliver the commercial strategy for one of our BWS category, identifying opportunities for growth and creating ranges that excite and inspire customers
- Build and develop strategic supplier partnerships, negotiating market-leading terms while unlocking innovation and long-term value
- Lead category performance, taking ownership of budgets, forecasts, strategic plans and key commercial objectives
- Use customer, market and performance insights to identify emerging trends and make informed commercial decisions
- Work closely with teams across supply chain, technical, quality, category management, marketing and merchandising to deliver an outstanding end-to-end customer offer
- Lead, coach and develop colleagues within your team, creating an environment where people can thrive and perform at their best
- Represent Co-op externally, building influential relationships across the supplier network and wider industry
- Help shape the future of our commercial function by contributing to transformation initiatives and continuous improvement activity

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
