About The Role
As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in.NET and C#, you will be a pivotal part of Ocho’s engineering team, contributing to the development of business-critical, real-time systems that underpin the company’s financial technology solutions. This role involves working within a hybrid working model, with three days per week based in Belfast, allowing for a balanced approach to remote and on-site collaboration. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering scalable, resilient software components across the full development lifecycle, from initial concept through to deployment and maintenance. Collaborating closely with Architects and Principal Engineers, you will help shape the technical direction of projects, ensuring solutions meet both functional and non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, and security. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology, including AI-enabled development tools, within a well-governed enterprise environment. You will also mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years' experience as a Senior Software Engineer in a complex, delivery-focused environment. Strong expertise in .NET (both modern.NET Framework and.NET Core) is essential, along with proven experience in building distributed, real-time systems and scalable components. You should have solid relational database skills, including schema design and optimization, with hands-on experience with MS SQL Server or MySQL. Proficiency in WPF application development and familiarity with event-driven and asynchronous messaging architectures are highly desirable. Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and a solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control systems such as GitHub or GitLab are required. Candidates should also have practical knowledge of Agile methodologies, especially within geographically distributed teams. Additional desirable skills include experience within financial services or trading platforms, familiarity with the FIX protocol, and exposure to Java and JavaScript.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Architects and Principal Engineers to design solutions aligned with the company's IT strategy and business goals.
- Take ownership of the end-to-end design, development, and delivery of key features, ensuring high-quality, maintainable code.
- Partner with QA teams to embed rigorous testing practices, aiming for defect-free releases and robust software quality.
- Champion engineering best practices, including comprehensive unit testing, code reviews, and maintainable design principles.
- Apply AI-enabled development tools to enhance productivity and code quality within a structured governance framework.
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies, tools, and methodologies to foster continuous improvement and innovation.
- Design solutions that meet both functional and non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, and security.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Proactively communicate project progress, risks, and dependencies, escalating issues early to ensure timely resolution.
