UK Power Networks Senior Cable/Circuit Designer Opportunity

UK Power Networks are looking for a Senior Cable/Circuit Designer to join Capital Programme – Engineering Design, based at our Crawley, Matthew’s Yard office.

This is a permanent opportunity reporting to the Design Lead, offering a salary of £84,160 plus car and bonus. The closing date for applications is 11 August 2026.

Role Overview

In this role, you will produce circuit designs from scopes provided by Project Managers, customers, or the Design Lead, including project costings that meet customer requirements for time, quality, and budget. The schemes may cover APP and Connections work, including both non-contestable and contestable projects, and must follow UK Power Networks design standards. You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Electrical and Civil Designers, PDC and Alliance members to deliver regulated network solutions that comply with design, CDM, and wider industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce circuit designs below ground and in air that can be constructed safely and in line with company standards, CDM requirements, relevant Codes of Practice, legislation, and industry regulations.
  • Oversee and contribute to technical, commercial, and contractual documents for procurement, support design assurance and audit processes.
  • Mentor Trainee, Graduate, and Engineer colleagues to develop their technical knowledge and experience.
  • Fulfill the role of Principal Designer for allocated schemes, helping to ensure hazards are eliminated or reduced and that remaining risks are managed appropriately.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
