BakerHicks provides a managed service for a major Defence Organisation, delivering CAD, BIM, Surveying, GIS and Tooling support across a highly regulated and technically demanding environment. Working directly on client sites, our teams play a critical role in maintaining accurate engineering and facility information that supports the safe operation of nationally important infrastructure.
As our service continues to grow, we're looking for a Senior CAD Technician to join our CAD Services Team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a wide range of engineering and facilities projects, producing and managing technical drawings across Architectural, Civil & Structural and MEP disciplines while working alongside experienced CAD and design professionals.
About You
You will be a detail-oriented CAD professional with experience producing high-quality technical drawings within engineering, construction, facilities or infrastructure environments.
You take pride in delivering accurate work, following established standards and procedures, and supporting project teams to achieve successful outcomes. You're organised, collaborative and committed to delivering work right first time while maintaining excellent quality and document control standards.
Key Purpose
- Produce and maintain high-quality CAD drawings and documentation in support of client operations and projects.
- Ensure all drawing deliverables comply with company and client CAD standards, procedures and configuration management requirements.
- Support the efficient delivery of projects by producing accurate drawings within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of CAD processes, standards and workflow efficiencies.
- Support the maintenance of accurate record information within a highly regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Produce schematics, general arrangement drawings, detailed drawings and models across Architectural, Civil & Structural and MEP disciplines.
- Update and modify existing drawings in accordance with client standards and procedures. Ensure CAD deliverables are produced accurately and comply with established CAD standards and configuration requirements.
- Generate drawings from survey information, mark-ups and redline documentation.
- Undertake site surveys and accurately capture redline information to support drawing updates.
- Process, review and check incoming drawings from contractors and suppliers.
- Maintain and update record drawings in accordance with client standards and procedures.
- Ensure accurate drawing records, document control and file management processes are maintained.
- Support delivery against project programmes, budgets and agreed service level indicators.
- Liaise effectively with colleagues and project teams to support the successful delivery of work.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, processes and drawing production efficiencies.
- Apply company and client procedures to ensure a high standard of quality and consistency across all deliverables.
- Promote a "Right First Time" and "Zero Defects" approach to delivery.
- Support a safe working environment and report any equipment or system issues to operational management.

Accountabilities
- Deliver CAD outputs to the required quality standards, timescales and budget constraints.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, CAD standards and client requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure configuration and document control processes are followed.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on quality, safety and customer satisfaction.
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- HNC/HND in an Engineering discipline or equivalent qualification.
- Experience producing technical CAD drawings within engineering, construction or facilities environments.
- Working knowledge of Architectural, Civil & Structural and/or MEP drawing production.
- Ability to interpret technical information, mark-ups and survey data to create accurate drawing deliverables.
- Understanding of drawing control, document management and configuration management processes.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage workload effectively and deliver to agreed deadlines.
- Proficient in CAD software and associated digital drawing tools.
Desirable
- Experience working within Defence, Nuclear or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience carrying out site surveys and updating record or as-built drawings.
- Knowledge of client-specific drawing and configuration management processes.
- Understanding of quality management systems and controlled document environments.
- Experience reviewing and checking drawings produced by external contractors or suppliers.

Security Clearance
Many of the positions within our company are subject to security clearance or security assurance levels. The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for this role, in line with client and sector requirements. In some cases, additional nationality or residency criteria may also apply due to specific client or national security obligations.
