Senior CAD Technician

Why this role?

BakerHicks provides a managed service for a major Defence Organisation's Configuration Management function. Working across the client's sites, we deliver specialist support in CAD, BIM, Surveying, GIS and Tooling through a dedicated team of approximately 60 professionals.

As our service continues to expand, we are looking for an experienced Senior CAD Technician to provide technical leadership, drawing support, and supervisory oversight across a wide range of multidisciplinary projects. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality CAD solutions, driving standards, mentoring colleagues, and ensuring the effective management of facility record information within a highly regulated environment.

About You

As a Senior CAD Technician, you will bring extensive experience in the delivery, coordination, and management of CAD models and technical drawing packages across architectural, civil, structural, and building services disciplines. You will be confident supervising technicians, managing project deliverables, and ensuring compliance with company and client standards.

You will have a strong technical understanding of Autodesk software platforms, Common Data Environments (CDEs), configuration management processes, and multidisciplinary design coordination. With a proactive and delivery-focused approach, you will champion quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement while supporting the development of junior team members.

Key Purpose

  • Produce and supervise the delivery of high-quality 2D and 3D CAD models, schematics, P&IDs, layouts, and schedules using Autodesk platforms.
  • Lead the coordination of architectural, civil, structural, and building services modelling activities.
  • Manage model content creation, configuration control, and compliance with company CAD standards.
  • Perform model audits and prepare deliverables for issue to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote a culture of right-first-time delivery and continuous improvement across the team.

What You Will Do

  • Produce and coordinate schematics, models, general arrangement drawings, and detailed drawings in accordance with client standards and procedures.
  • Generate and supervise the production of CAD models covering architectural, civil, structural, and building services disciplines.
  • Manage and oversee facility "As Built" and record model configuration control processes.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with company standards, project requirements, and BIM Execution Plans (BEPs).
  • Undertake updates and modifications to facility drawings to maintain accurate records and information management.
  • Complete and supervise site surveys, ensuring redline changes and asset information are captured accurately.
  • Perform model audits and quality reviews prior to issue to customers, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Oversee technical quality assurance by independently reviewing, approving, and coordinating multidisciplinary CAD deliverables.
  • Manage and maintain CAD templates, block libraries, and modelling standards to ensure consistency across projects.
  • Estimate tasks and oversee delivery in line with Service Level Indicators (SLIs), budgets, and agreed timescales.
  • Monitor project progress and associated costs against estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with company security procedures, health and safety requirements, and safe systems of work.
  • Mentor and support trainees and CAD Technicians, helping to develop technical capability across the team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
