Job Overview
Central CAMHS are seeking to appoint a Senior CAMHS Practitioner to join our team at a very exciting time as we review and work to improve all aspects of our service delivery, supported by significant investment.
Central CAMHS offers a service to children, young people and families. We provide an extensive offer to our local community including significant early intervention and prevention services, unscheduled care, an Early Years 0-7 service and a broad range of NICE recommended and other evidence-based interventions. We are a dynamic and committed multidisciplinary team of Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Family Therapists, and CAMHS Practitioners with a range of core professional backgrounds and Assistant Psychologists. Significant joint working takes place with multi-agency partners with whom we have very good relationships.
We are proud of our commitment to supporting continuing professional development for our team. Regular weekly peer case discussions, in addition to multidisciplinary team meetings take place.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have a significant role in undertaking assessments and providing evidence-based interventions to children, young people and families. The post holder will be a key member of our team with involvement in multidisciplinary meetings, offering consultation and training. They will care co-ordinate and provide supervision to colleagues. Involvement in developing and maintaining clinical skills within the wider team and service development will form part of this role.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualification and Knowledge
Essential Criteria
- A recognised core profession such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Psychology
- Continued professional and management development
- Clinical Masters’ Degree or equivalent educational or experience indicating performance at Masters’ level
- Good knowledge of a broad range of mental health disorders and their presentation within children and young people
- Good knowledge of family dynamics and the issues of working with families
- Understanding of Child Protection procedures
- Up-to-date knowledge of legislation in relation to children, young people and their families and mental health
Desirable criteria
- A recognised post-graduate qualification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- BACP (or equivalent Board) accredited CBT Therapist
- Able to demonstrate and teach CBT approaches to other professionals
- Training in evidence-based therapies that may complement a CBT approach
- Training in supervision
- Good knowledge of a range of evidence-based psychotherapies
- Detailed generic understanding of child and adolescent mental health and development
- Good knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, including theory, developments and current research
- Knowledge and experience of psychological research methods

Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad Clinical Experience of working therapeutically with children and young people who are experiencing complex mental health difficulties
- Experience working in a specific clinical role relating to CAMHS
- Experience of work with families, carers and professional support systems
- Substantial experience in clinical practice post qualification or in therapeutic clinical practice
- Experience of care coordination
Desirable criteria
- Previous specialist CAMHS experience carrying out risk assessment with vulnerable or high-risk groups
- Experience of providing focused CBT to this client group
- Experience of providing indirect clinical support through supervision consultation or training
- Experience of clinical practice within the framework of the Mental Health Measure
Aptitudes And Abilities
Essential criteria
- Able to carry out comprehensive mental health assessments using effective interview, observation, review of records and relevant psychometric measures
- Experience of working with a wide range of CAMHS presentations across the age range
- Able to identify a range of mental health difficulties and the factors that may have contributed to their development and maintenance
- Able to collate, interpret and formulate information to guide intervention and care planning
- Able to deliver effective evidence-based Therapy to children, young people and their families with highly complex psychological problems
- Able to communicate complex and highly sensitive clinical information, orally and in writing to children, young people, families/carers, and other professionals within and outside the NHS
- Experience of care planning and knowledge of the Mental Health Measure Wales
- Mental Health Measure compliant
- Able to work autonomously to take responsibility for own caseload
- Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
