Senior Cashier - Stewarts Christchurch
As a Senior Cashier, you'll play a key role in delivering an exceptional customer experience while ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the tills and front-of-house area. You'll lead by example, providing outstanding customer service and maintaining efficient, accurate till operations.
Working closely with the Customer Service Team Leader, you'll help create a welcoming first and last impression for every customer, ensuring transactions are completed accurately and professionally. You'll also provide day-to-day support to the cashier team, helping to maintain high standards, resolve queries and keep the department running efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Support the day-to-day running of the tills and front-of-house operation.
- Welcome every customer with a friendly, professional and helpful approach.
- Ensure all transactions are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Assist with opening and closing tills, cash reconciliation and banking procedures in line with company policies.
- Investigate and resolve till discrepancies promptly and accurately.
- Support with the training and induction of new cashiers, ensuring they understand company procedures and service expectations.
- Provide coaching and guidance to team members to build confidence and improve performance.
- Handle customer queries and returns professionally, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Promote our loyalty scheme, gift cards and seasonal promotions where applicable.
- Ensure the till area, customer service desk and entrance remain clean, tidy and well presented.
- Maintain adequate stocks of till consumables, bags, receipt rolls and stationery.
- Support stock control and security procedures, helping to minimise cash losses and prevent theft.
- Liaise with colleagues across all departments to ensure an excellent customer journey.
- Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed at all times.

What You'll Need:
- Previous experience in a retail cashier, customer service or front-of-house supervisory role.
- Experience with cash reconciliation, banking and end-of-day procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills with a genuine passion for helping people.
- Excellent cash handling skills and attention to detail.
- Confidence and experience operating tills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise in a busy environment.
- A calm, positive and professional approach, particularly during busy trading periods.
- The ability to resolve customer issues confidently and fairly.
- A flexible, hands-on attitude and willingness to support other departments when needed.
- A good understanding of retail Health & Safety and security procedures.
- Availability to work alternate weekends and during seasonal peak trading periods.

The Practical Details:
Contract Type: Permanent – Part time (26 hours per week)
Location: Stewarts Christchurch Garden Centre, Lyndhurst Road, Christchurch, Dorset, BH23 4SA
Reports to: Customer Service Team Leader
Salary: £13.05 per hour
Work Pattern: We have two Senior Cashier vacancies both working across a two week rota;
Senior Cashier 1 - Average hours: 26.85
