Head of Category / Business Unit Lead
Ipswich | Full-time | Hybrid
Salary £80,000 - £95,000
An established and growing SME (sub £30m), a B2B provider and distributor of specialist products used within manufacturing and other regulated environments is entering an exciting new phase of development and expanding its divisional structure.
This is a critical appointment, with responsibility for the business’s largest product category and its most significant opportunities for future growth. The Business Unit Lead will take end-to-end commercial ownership of the category, with responsibility for developing the proposition, growing customer penetration and delivering revenue and gross profit growth.
The Business
The business has built a strong reputation for providing premium products and solutions to customers operating in highly regulated, operationally critical environments.
The Business Unit encompasses a mix of mid-value products alongside an increasingly important range of lower-value, high-volume products, reflecting growing customer demand and opportunities to increase penetration across the existing customer base.
The Role
The purpose of this role is to take an established and successful category and develop it significantly further, identifying gaps in the range, responding to customer demand and creating a clear strategy for future growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
