Senior Civil Design Engineer
FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading contractor in the UK water sector for an experienced Senior Civil Design Engineer to join their engineering team based in Peterborough, supporting projects across the Anglian Water, with hybrid working available.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong background in water, utilities, infrastructure or civil engineering to provide technical leadership across a range of projects, while supporting and developing junior engineers within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.

Senior Civil Design Engineer Role
Provide technical engineering direction and design support across a portfolio of water and infrastructure projects.
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary project teams and key stakeholders to develop effective and innovative engineering solutions.
- Ensure civil engineering designs are technically compliant, fit for purpose and delivered in accordance with current legislation and industry standards.
- Support the successful delivery of projects within agreed programme and budget requirements.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to junior and less experienced engineers.
- Promote technical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement across the wider engineering team.
- Support the adoption of digital engineering technologies, including the development of fully attributed 3D models.

Senior Civil Design Engineer Responsibilities
- Check and review civil engineering design deliverables produced by other engineers, ensuring relevant processes, procedures and technical standards are followed.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineers on both an individual and team basis.
- Contribute to Construction Design Management (CDM) and commissioning strategy meetings.
- Review project designs to ensure all required CDM deliverables have been completed.
- Ensure designs comply with Minimum Asset Standards, providing constructive technical challenge where appropriate.
- Maintain awareness of developments within key technical areas and share knowledge across the civil engineering team.
- Support the implementation of new digital technologies and engineering solutions.
- Develop design alerts and share lessons learned to encourage continuous improvement across the engineering function.
- Champion health, safety and quality throughout all design and engineering activities.
Senior Civil Design Engineer Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering or a relevant equivalent qualification.
- Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards professional chartership, would be highly desirable.
- Strong technical knowledge and experience across civil engineering design.
- Experience working with reinforced concrete, structural steel buildings, buried pipework and site infrastructure.
- Previous experience within the water, utilities, infrastructure or civil engineering sectors would be highly advantageous.
- Experience reviewing and checking engineering designs and technical deliverables.
- Strong understanding of CDM requirements and engineering design standards.
- Proven leadership, coaching and mentoring capabilities, with the ability to support the development of less experienced engineers.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commitment to health and safety, technical excellence and innovative design.
- Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary engineering and project teams.
