Role description:

The electricity transmission and distribution networks in the UK are currently undergoing major upgrading to meet future demand. As part of the Resilience team, Arcadis is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer with a minimum of 5 years proven combined experience in civil and structural engineering projects, of which a minimum of 2 years should have been directly working on transmission and distribution projects up to 400kV.

This position involves liaison with other technical teams, in both local and overseas locations, to deliver design of large UK substation projects.

This position involves management of workload of teams based in Glasgow and at various GEC locations in India.

Reporting to the Associate Technical Director/Technical Director, you will be responsible for the Delivery of allocated technical work elements and design activities for preparation of outline & detailed design drawings and other associated construction-ready documentation, all in accordance with the Company’s quality, safety and project management/engineering procedures and controls.

Role accountabilities:

  • Deliver large projects, relating to energy network reinforcement, throughout Scotland
  • Client liaison from initial contact through project delivery
  • Prepare clear and well-structured design calculations, reports, drawings and other appropriate deliverables, including checking of designs/reports prior to issue
  • Liaise with CAD technicians and Engineers to determine safe, cost-effective substation design solutions
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure cohesive, high-quality design solutions
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior team members

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Preferably Masters degree in civil engineering
  • Leading civil and structural design packages for transmission and distribution or similar energy projects
  • Working towards chartered membership of a recognised professional body
  • Electrical sub-station design experience essential
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams, with good communication skills
  • Proficient in use of following software packages: InfoDrainage, AutoCAD, Revit/Robot, TEDDS, Civil3D, BIM integration, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of design standards: SuDS, DMRB, Building Regulations, Operator standards etc
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and industry H+S standards essential
