Job Description

Start here. Grow here.

Are you ready to support a team of talented engineers and shape the future of the water industry?

We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer with experience in the Dams & Reservoirs space to help us deliver industry-leading reservoir and dam projects across the UK and further afield. Projects will include safety upgrades, hydropower, new storage and resilience schemes for key clients - such as the Environment Agency, South West Water, Wessex Water, Southern Water, Severn Trent Water, contractors, and private clients.

AECOM consistently ranks as the #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm by Engineering News-Record and proudly maintains the reputation of being the industry’s global leader in dam, reservoir, and water projects. Our global network of specialists works together to solve our client’s most complex challenges and this role offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience, receive expert mentorship, and the opportunity to shape the future of water resource management. Also, if you are interested in becoming a reservoir Supervising Panel Engineer, we will support you through our network of panel engineers to give you the experience and training needed.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of reservoir and dam projects, including embankments, spillways, outlet works, dam raising, and remediation works.
  • Provide technical leadership for feasibility studies, options appraisals, outline and detailed design, and construction support.
  • Undertake and review dam safety assessments, hydrology studies, flood routing, drawdown assessments, and dam breach analyses.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, specifications, drawings, and design documentation.
  • Coordinate with Panel Engineers, regulators, water companies, contractors, and lead site inspections, investigations, and asset condition assessments.
  • Support bids and proposals, mentor junior engineers, champion sustainability initiatives, and engage in continuous professional development.

Become part of our dynamic Water business, which boasts around 600 experts across the UK & Ireland, including your immediate team of over thirty UK based reservoir engineers. Join one of our UK offices whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. Collaborate with top-tier engineers and consultants to deliver a variety of captivating projects, from small initiatives to large-scale ventures, all the way from concept to completion.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
