The Opportunity

A well-established and growing engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer to join their team in Cambridge, with a particular focus on flood risk, drainage and sustainable infrastructure design.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer looking to take ownership of technically challenging projects while working within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

The business delivers civil engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors, with expertise spanning drainage, flood risk assessments, highways, infrastructure, transport and external works. Their flood risk and drainage team works across projects ranging from individual developments through to large commercial schemes, providing everything from initial assessments and drainage strategies through to detailed design.

The Role

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will be involved in the delivery of a varied portfolio of civil engineering projects, taking responsibility for the technical design and development of schemes from concept through to completion.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Leading the delivery of flood risk and drainage projects
  • Preparing and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies
  • Undertaking detailed surface water and foul drainage design
  • Designing and assessing SuDS, attenuation and flood mitigation solutions
  • Producing hydraulic calculations and drainage models
  • Supporting planning applications and liaising with LLFAs, Environment Agency and statutory authorities
  • Developing infrastructure and external works designs
  • Working closely with structural engineers, transport planners, developers and other project stakeholders
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
  • Managing your own workload and contributing to project delivery and client relationships

About You

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong background in drainage and/or flood risk, ideally gained within a consultancy environment.

You Should Have

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong experience in drainage design and flood risk
  • Experience producing Drainage Strategies and/or Flood Risk Assessments
  • Knowledge of SuDS and sustainable drainage principles
  • Experience with relevant drainage/hydraulic modelling software
  • Good understanding of UK planning and drainage requirements
  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • The ability to manage projects and work independently

Chartered or working towards ICE/CIWEM/CEng status would be advantageous.
