Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil / Infrastructure Engineer to join our Glasgow office. This opportunity would suit someone who can demonstrate strong civil engineering experience within a consultancy environment, with particular capability in highway, drainage and external works design across a range of development sectors.

The successful candidate will work in one of the UK’s leading private engineering consultancies, providing integrated infrastructure solutions for a wide range of clients. The role requires technical confidence, strong communication skills, client-facing capability and the ability to manage multiple projects, while supporting and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Design

  • Prepare, coordinate and deliver highway, drainage, levels, external works and associated civil engineering designs from feasibility through to detailed design and technical approval.
  • Use design packages such as AutoCAD, AutoTrack, PDS, Civil 3D, Site 3D, MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow and/or other civil engineering software to develop accurate drawings, models and calculations.
  • Apply relevant UK design standards and guidance, including highway and drainage requirements, Sewers for Scotland, Section 56 Agreements and full RCC packages.
  • Produce and review technical reports and supporting documents for planning applications, including Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies and Assessments, and Site Viability assessments.

Project Management

  • Manage projects and work packages, balancing priorities across multiple commissions while meeting agreed programmes, budgets and quality standards.
  • Coordinate inputs from internal and external design teams, ensuring deliverables are complete, consistent and issued on time.
  • Support project planning, resourcing, risk management, fee forecasting and project reporting.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and provide clear direction, support and guidance to junior colleagues.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with architects, clients, local authorities, contractors, statutory bodies and other professionals throughout project delivery.
  • Represent Fairhurst professionally in meetings, workshops, site visits, networking events and other external engagements.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, supporting repeat business and the wider promotion of the company.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
