Joining Arup
Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
Arup has a proven track record in the UK water industry, delivering exciting projects for major water companies, the Environment Agency, and Natural Resources Wales. Following our recent successes in securing AMP8 framework roles with and other standalone projects, we are actively seeking to grow our senior technical leadership team to support delivery for our clients and partners. This includes AMP8 frameworks with United Utilities, Severn Trent Water, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water and Thames Water.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our growing team, with opportunities available in Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield or Manchester. You will play a key role in leading and delivering a varied portfolio of projects for water companies, contractors, local authorities and developers, across the UK and overseas. Our projects are predominantly river and water focused but also span a wider range of civil engineering sectors.
You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through design, construction, commissioning and handover, giving you the opportunity to take real ownership of projects, develop client relationships and influence project outcomes.
As a senior member of the team, you will also contribute to team leadership, mentor junior engineers and help drive improvements in how we deliver our projects, including the use of digital tools and new ways of working.
Key Responsibilities

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
