Your Impact
You'll play a key role in shaping how developments are planned and delivered, influencing layouts, infrastructure, and long-term site performance. Your work will support projects that are practical, compliant, and aligned with environmental and regulatory requirements.
Internally, your impact will be seen in the strength and consistency of delivery. By mentoring engineers and contributing to project coordination, you'll help build a high-performing team while developing your own leadership and client-facing capability.
About The Role
You will lead the delivery of civil engineering design across the Scottish Water programme, taking responsibility for technical quality, programme and client outcomes on water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The role is based in our Glasgow office with hybrid working.
You will work on treatment works, pumping stations, service reservoirs, pipelines and network schemes from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support. Your work will include site layouts, earthworks, drainage, access roads, below-ground pipework and the civil elements of treatment and pumping assets, along with the technical reports, specifications and submission packages that go with them.
You will coordinate closely with process, mechanical, electrical and structural colleagues, liaise with clients, contractors and stakeholders, and support consents and approvals with local authorities and SEPA.
Alongside technical delivery, you will contribute to project management, supporting fee proposals, resource planning and programme management, and you will mentor junior engineers and help build a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Lead civil design for treatment works, pumping stations, service reservoirs, pipelines and network schemes.
- Take ownership of technical quality, programme and client outcomes on your projects.
- Produce and check calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports from feasibility to construction.
- Coordinate designs with process, mechanical, electrical and structural disciplines so they are integrated and buildable.
- Support consents and approvals and manage relationships with local authorities, SEPA and other stakeholders.
- Support site investigations, design reviews and construction activities.
- Contribute to fee proposals, resource planning and programme management.
- Mentor junior engineers and strengthen the consistency and quality of delivery across the team.

About You
Essential
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) with ICE or a similar institution, or actively working towards.
- Strong experience delivering civil engineering design within the UK water sector or another regulated infrastructure environment.
- Good understanding of treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines and associated civil infrastructure.
- Experience with drainage design, earthworks and below-ground pipework.
- Experience leading technical delivery on multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, InfoDrainage or similar tools.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience mentoring or supporting the development of junior engineers.
Desirable
- Familiarity with Scottish Water or other water company design standards and specifications.
- Understanding of CDM Regulations and experience acting as a designer under CDM.
- Experience working collaboratively with contractors and delivery partners.
- Experience supporting framework delivery, fee proposals and client relationships.
- Knowledge of digital engineering tools and modern methods of project delivery.
- Experience from adjacent sectors such as energy, rail, nuclear or transport infrastructure.
